Dear Friend:
Lucida was founded by a group of colleagues who had worked together previously in healthcare. Our last company is now a very large, well-respected, publicly-traded company. After going our separate way for nearly five years, we came back together with the goal of creating a unique company. This time, instead of focusing on quality, service and growth for the financial enrichment of public shareholders, we would focus on those same objectives for the benefit of our professionals, clients and employees and, frankly, to try to do some good in the world while doing well in business.
Following my previous position as Chairman of Cross Country - TravCorps, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work as a volunteer and fund raiser for a number of non-profit, child-focused organizations (including Wide Horizons for Children, a Massachusetts-based international adoption agency) and the YMCA. While I was personally fulfilled by the mission of these non-profits, I became frustrated by the fact that no matter how much time or money an individual could donate, it would only "move the needle" a little bit.
Discussing the matter with some like-minded individuals gave rise to the idea that eventually became Lucida Healthcare Group and our two operating subsidiaries, Lucida Healthcare IT and Lucida Healthcare Traveler. We wanted to create a firm that measures its success not just in the career growth it offered its consultants, clients and home-office team, but in the company's ability to provide the financial engine to "do good" for others on a far greater scale than we could as individuals.
So, at the same time we founded Lucida, we also set up and funded a non-profit affiliate called The Lucida Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to provide annual grants to established charities that focus on children's health, well being and education. Lucida is organized in such a manner as to enable it to channel 10% of each years' operating profits to the foundation (the rest of the profits will be re-invested in the company to stimulate future growth and greater donations).
While our mission may sound soft-hearted, Lucida Healthcare IT has assembled the team and technology to aggressively contend in the highly competitive world of Healthcare IT. We're in business to succeed, and then extend significant portions of that success to others. It's our belief this will help us attract and retain the kinds of consultants that are not only in great demand for the professional skills they possess, but also for the quality people they are.
We are determined to make a difference and truly hope you'll join us!
Sincerely,
Bruce A. Cerullo
